Nuzzles Sets Record For Lifesaving in 2020!

Because of the unwavering support of our community of donors, volunteers, grantors, and other supporters, we ended 2020 strong, and we won’t break our stride as we groove into 2021! We — and the animals — are so happy to report that we are up 24% in total lives saved for 2020. And we did it amid an economic downturn, a global pandemic, a vast number of people surrendering pets due to uncertainty, a cancelled gala, and a forced shift to digital/scheduled pet meet-and-greets for potential adopters.

If there’s one thing this proves, it’s that love always wins in the face of adversity. People WILL step up and help the most vulnerable among us, such as these rescue animals for whom we’re so honored to care. Thanks to you, the pandemic did not slow our lifesaving efforts. In fact, we kept pace and avoided so much needless suffering. Overburdened shelters turned to us for help, and we were able to ensure each animal received the medical care, training, and time they needed to prepare to find their forever homes. And when they found their families, what joyous matches those were!

Whether you supported Nuzzles as a volunteer, donated supplies, helped foster animals, shared the love on social media, or donated money to our grassroots fundraiser campaigns, we are incredibly grateful. And the animals send all their purrs and wags in appreciation.

As the impacts of the pandemic continue, other shelters and rescues tell us that they expect 2021 will be another difficult year. More families may have to give up their pets due to economic uncertainty, and more homeless animals may be at risk. But with support from people like you, we’re able to keep funding programs like those below, making sure that every deserving animal has a second chance.

97.2% Live Release Rate
We are proud to maintain a no-kill live release rate of 97.2%. With 90% marking the threshold of being no-kill for any shelter or rescue group, Nuzzles & Co. has always maintained a standard far higher by saving every treatable and rehabilitatable life possible.

1,863 Total Lives Saved
Through 1,535 adoptions and 175 transfers out to other rescue partners, and 153 animals still in our care at the end of the year, Nuzzles & Co. achieved a phenomenal 1,863 total dogs and cats saved.

912 Local Rescues
Nuzzles & Co. partners with dozens of Animal Controls, private shelters, and other rescue groups around Utah. We are proud to assist our partners that are lacking space or resources by rescuing dogs and cats for medical care and adoption placement.

847 Reservation Rescues
Nuzzles & Co. is one of very few animal welfare organizations that partners with the Ute Reservations, and the Navajo Nation. We are honored to maintain an animal rescue and spay/neuter relationship with these communities to save lives and prevent pet overpopulation.

1,942 Medical Procedures
To help control the pet population, Nuzzles & Co. always spays and neuters all of our adoptable dogs and cats, as well as provide life-saving medical procedures for animals in need. Our in-house community clinic veterinarians perform surgeries and procedures for the community at a very affordable cost.

41 Purple Paw Pets
Purple Paw remains an innovative and unique program that we are proud to maintain for our local communities. By housing the dogs and cats of families suffering from domestic violence, we are able to help keep people safe, and ultimately return pets to their loving homes.

On behalf of dogs and cats at Nuzzles & Co. Pet Rescue and Adoption, thank you again for your support throughout 2020 and as we head into 2021! We look forward to sharing more happy stories with you in the year ahead, to continue to inspire you, and fill your heart with love knowing that you make this lifesaving work possible!
